Basic Idea to Cooling Towers

Cooling tower is a very vital component of various industrial applications. The primitive responsibility of a cooling tower is to discard the heat into the atmosphere. The cooling tower charaterises a relatively modest, dependable and economic means of abstracting low grade heat of water from a circulating system.
Hot water from any heat-exchange application is discharged to the cooling tower. The cold water flows out of the cooling tower and re-sent to the same heat-exchange application. The water cooling in the cooling tower is obtained by the principles of evaporative cooling, whereby a small portion of hot water is evaporated into a moving air stream and consequently emitted into the atmosphere. As a result the prevailing water in the cooling tower is cooled down considerably.

Generally, a cooling tower can refer to any form of industrial water cooling by means of evaporative effects. Cooling tower is a most common, acceptable and economical device for industrial water cooling.
Basically the cooling tower is nothing but an evaporative water cooling equipment. Although water can also be cooled by constructing spray pond, however the space now is so limited and expensive, that compact high performance equipment has become the necessity.
Every industrial process usually needs the cooling water for efficient and proper operation. Cooling towers transfer the heat from re-circulating water to the atmosphere and send the cooled water back to the process.

Cooling Tower Motor:Cooling tower motors are specially designed to operate in continuous running. These flange mounted extended shaft motors are high in accuracy and reliability and deliver long trouble-free service.
Rotary Sprinkler: A self rotating water resistant sprinkling device ensures uniform distribution of water over the complete area of fills/packings. These sprinklers are fitted with double “z” ball bearings to take care of radial and thrust load.
Fill: Our standard fill is made with specially designed vaccum formed PVC sheets duly glued together. The fill comes in a light weight multy layer honeycomb block, which is heavy duty and high performance. The specially formed sheet is as such to optimize the turbulence of air and water flows, increasing the evaporation effects with a minimum air pressure drop.
Casing: Casing of fiberglass reinforced polyster (FRP) cooling tower have been designed for durability and compactness. It has sufficient structural strength to withstand high industrial vibration and wind velocities.
Basin: Our cooling tower basin is made of special FRP material, which is known for its excellent corrosion resistance ability as well as outstanding physical and mechanical properties. Basin segments are leak proof and homogeneous in nature. These are light weight and easy to transport.

It divides into group.

GROUP 1 : PONDS Cooling pond : Cooling occurs partially from contact between air and water at the surface. Rate of heat transfer is low and it is very space consuming. It has poor approach to air WBT and cooling performance is not readily determined.
Spray Pond : A pond with spray mounted several feet above the surface is surrounded with louvers fencing to reduce loss through carry- over. It has better performance than ponds but limited performance since water/air time of contact is small.
GROUP 2 : NATURAL DRAUGHT Spray Filled : It contains no packing, only numerous spray nozzles at the top; air flows crosswise to vertical fall of water. A high pump head is required to atomise water through nozzles. It is suitable only for small cooling duties.
Wood Fill : Contains baffling to increase the wetted surface for air/water contact, and longer contact time, the water dropping from deck to deck. Performance is better than Spray-fill.
Chimney Towers : It makes use of chimney above the packing to induce air flow through packing in counter flow to the water. It is not suitable for high dry bulb air temperatures
GROUP 3: MECHANICAL DRAFT Induced Draft : An induced draught tower in which the fans create vertical air movement up the tower across the packing in opposition to the water flow., thus the coldest water contacts the driest air. Mechanical parts are water distribution are not easily accessible for maintenance. It has more compact ground plan than forced draught design due to absence of fan on the side.
Forced Draught : A forced draught cooling tower having fan on the side at the air intake and blow ambient air into the tower across the packing. Limited fan size, thus a large number of smaller fans of higher speed compared with induced draught arrangement results in more noise but tower itself provides some attenuation.
